Emission
and Aftertreatment Systems

Emission & Aftertreatment Systems
- Components Behind Every Emissions Standard

Meeting current EURO emissions standards is not the job of a single component – it’s the combined function of several systems working together: exhaust gas recirculation reducing combustion temperature and NOx formation, SCR systems converting NOx using precisely dosed AdBlue, and oil cooling systems managing the additional thermal load these processes create. When any one of these components fails, the consequence isn’t limited to a fault code – it can mean coolant contamination, accelerated engine wear, or complete loss of emissions compliance.

HEPU® Emission & Aftertreatment Systems brings together the components responsible for this function: EGR and EGR coolers, oil coolers, AdBlue dosing modules, and AdBlue tanks – each manufactured to OE specification.

Why These Systems Demand Particular Attention

EGR systems route a portion of exhaust gas back into the intake to lower combustion temperature and reduce NOx formation – but this also means the EGR cooler, which uses engine coolant to cool the recirculated exhaust gas, sits at the intersection of the exhaust and cooling systems. When an EGR cooler develops an internal leak, the symptoms mimic a blown cylinder head gasket almost exactly: boiling coolant in the expansion tank, combustion gas bubbles in the cooling system, and fluid loss without any visible external leak. Diagnosing this correctly – rather than proceeding straight to cylinder head work – saves hours of unnecessary labour and significant cost.

The same emissions systems that reduce NOx also accelerate soot contamination in engine oil, placing additional demand on oil cooling performance. And AdBlue dosing components, responsible for metering urea solution into the exhaust stream with high precision, are highly sensitive to fluid purity – low-quality AdBlue is one of the most common causes of dosing module and injector failure in modern diesel applications.

Technical specifications

Key features

  • OE-matched flow and thermal specification
EGR coolers, oil coolers, and AdBlue components are manufactured to the precise flow rates, thermal performance, and material specifications of the original equipment.
  • Engineered for soot and contamination resistance
EGR coolers and related components are specified to withstand the abrasive soot and thermal cycling characteristic of EGR-equipped diesel and direct-injection petrol applications.
  • Precision-calibrated AdBlue dosing accuracy
AdBlue dosing modules replicate OE metering precision, critical for both SCR conversion efficiency and avoidance of crystallisation-related blockages.
  • Broad coverage across EURO 5/6 emissions platforms
Covers the passenger car and light commercial vehicle applications where EGR, SCR, and associated thermal management systems are most heavily relied upon to meet emissions standards.

Benefits

  • Correct diagnosis avoids unnecessary cylinder head work
EGR cooler leaks frequently present identically to a blown head gasket. Verifying EGR cooler integrity before proceeding to cylinder head removal saves significant diagnostic time and repair cost.
  • Protects coolant system integrity
A failing EGR cooler allows combustion gases into the cooling system or coolant into the exhaust - correct replacement, with complete coolant system flushing, prevents recurring contamination and pump damage.
  • Maintains emissions compliance
Reliable EGR, oil cooling, and AdBlue dosing performance is what allows the vehicle to continue meeting the emissions standard it was certified to - component failure in any of these systems undermines that compliance directly.
  • Prevents AdBlue-related dosing failures
Correctly specified dosing modules, paired with ISO 22241-compliant AdBlue, avoid the crystallisation and blockage failures that are among the most common causes of SCR system faults in modern diesel vehicles.

Applications

  • Passenger cars
  • Light commercial vehicles
  • Trucks
