The vacuum system supplies the brake servo and a range of vacuum-actuated components – its failure compromises braking assistance. The high-pressure fuel system delivers precisely metered fuel at pressures the combustion process depends on entirely – its failure stops the engine running correctly, or running at all.

A vacuum pump and a high-pressure pump operate at opposite ends of the pressure spectrum – one generates negative pressure for brake assistance and auxiliary systems, the other generates several hundred bar of injection pressure for combustion. What they share is zero tolerance for inconsistency. A vacuum pump that underperforms reduces brake servo assistance, increasing pedal effort and stopping distance. A high-pressure pump that loses precision disrupts injection timing and fuel metering, causing rough running, increased emissions, or in severe cases, contamination of the entire fuel system with metal debris from internal pump failure.
