The cooling circuit is only as reliable as its weakest connection. Rubber hoses degrade with heat cycling and coolant chemistry exposure regardless of mileage; rigid pipes – increasingly plastic or composite in current engine designs – are prone to cracking at mounting points and flange connections. A failure in either component causes the same outcome as a pump or thermostat failure: loss of coolant, loss of pressure, loss of temperature control.
