Oil Management

Oil Management
- The Foundation of Engine Longevity

No component in the engine survives without correct lubrication. The oil pump is the heart of that system – pressurising and circulating oil to every bearing surface, every camshaft journal, every hydraulic actuator that depends on stable pressure to function. When oil pressure drops, the consequences are not isolated to one part of the engine. They are systemic, and they are often irreversible.

HEPU® Oil Management brings together the components responsible for engine lubrication: oil pumps, tandem oil pumps combining oil and vacuum functions, complete oil pump kits, and oil coolers. Each component is manufactured to OE specification, addressing the specific demands of modern engine architecture – tighter tolerances, variable displacement control, and lubrication systems that now also support hydraulically actuated components such as VVT adjusters.

Why Oil Pressure Is Non-Negotiable

Oil pressure is not a single, fixed value – it is a range that must be maintained correctly across the engine’s operating envelope, from idle to full load. At idle, 1.5 to 2.5 bar is typical. At 3,000 rpm, that figure rises to 3.0–4.5 bar, depending on application. This pressure does more than lubricate bearings: it directly controls the function of variable valve timing adjusters, which require 2.5 to 4.0 bar to operate correctly. Insufficient oil pressure does not just accelerate wear – it generates VVT fault codes (P0011, P0021) that no timing component replacement can resolve, because the fault lies in the lubrication system, not the timing system.

This is why HEPU® treats oil pumps as safety-critical components, engineered to maintain OE-specified pressure across the full operating range – not simply to circulate oil at any pressure.

Key features

  • Fixed and variable-displacement pump technologies
HEPU® covers both conventional fixed-displacement oil pumps and variable-displacement designs that adjust output to engine demand, reducing parasitic power loss and improving fuel efficiency on supported applications.
  • OE-matched pressure and flow specification
Each pump maintains the precise pressure curve specified by the original manufacturer across the full operating range - from idle to high load - not an approximation.
  • Tandem oil/vacuum pump coverage
Combined units for applications where a single shaft drives both the lubrication pump and the vacuum pump supplying the brake servo and other vacuum-actuated systems.
  • Complete kits with drive chain and components
HEPU® oil pump kits include the chain and associated hardware needed for a full, single-reference replacement - not just the pump body.
  • Oil coolers matched to OE thermal performance
Heat exchanger capacity and flow geometry are engineered to maintain oil temperature within its correct operating window under sustained load.

Benefits

  • Protects every lubricated component in the engine
Correct, stable oil pressure is the precondition for bearing life, camshaft and chain durability, and VVT adjuster function. A worn pump compromises all of them simultaneously, not just one.
  • Prevents VVT fault codes with no timing-side cause
Insufficient oil pressure generates P0011 and P0021 fault codes that mimic a timing system fault. Verifying and correcting oil pump condition resolves the actual cause - a new timing chain will not.
  • Reduces wear from soot-contaminated oil
In diesel and direct-injection engines, correct pump pressure and flow help maintain lubrication performance even as EGR/DPF-related soot accumulates in the oil between service intervals.
  • One reference, complete replacement
Oil pump kits eliminate the need to source the chain and associated hardware separately, reducing both sourcing time and the risk of a mismatched component compromising the repair.
  • Stable oil temperature under load
HEPU® oil coolers protect viscosity and lubrication performance during sustained high-load operation, where oil temperature would otherwise climb beyond its effective range.
