The AdBlue tank stores the urea solution that SCR systems depend on for NOx reduction – but it’s not a passive container. In many applications, the tank integrates a heating element to prevent AdBlue from freezing in cold weather, a level sensor feeding information to the dashboard and ECU, and sealing that must hold against a fluid known for its corrosive interaction with certain metals and its tendency to crystallise if it contacts contamination. A tank failure – a cracked housing, a faulty sensor, a failed heater – disrupts the entire SCR system upstream of the dosing module itself.
